What is Tas-IX network in Uzbekistan

TAS-IX (Tashkent Internet Exchange) is an Internet traffic exchange point created on December 24, 2004, based on an agreement between five major Internet providers in Uzbekistan for the mutual exchange of traffic within their networks. The main goal of TAS-IX is to optimize data routing and reduce the cost of international communication channels. This is achieved by the fact that data is transmitted directly between providers within the TAS-IX network, excluding the use of international highways.

The main advantage of the system is that resources located within the networks of TAS-IX participating providers (tas ix hosting) become available at lower rates compared to resources located outside these networks. This allows users to access local sites, services and content at favorable prices, and providers to reduce the cost of servicing Internet traffic.

The main goals of creating the Tas-IX network:

  • Creating the possibility of direct exchange of IP traffic between various data transmission networks in the Republic of Uzbekistan without using international channels;
  • Assistance in creating favorable conditions for the development of the national segment of the Internet;
  • Popularization of the Internet among the population of the republic by participating in various events, publishing thematic articles in printed and electronic publications;
  • Improving the economic conditions for the activities of small and medium-sized businesses whose activities are related to the use of the Internet, including, but not limited to: provision of Internet access services (Internet providers, Internet cafes), as well as in the production, trade, advertising activities of enterprises.

Therefore, TAS-IX promotes the development of local content production and increased accessibility of the Internet among the population of Uzbekistan, while reducing dependence on foreign data transmission channels.

About Tas-IX

In January 2004, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan registered the NGO “Data Transmission Network Interaction Center TAS-IX”. The founders of the organization are Amaliy Aloqalar Biznesi Ahborot Markazi LLC (VSS), Buzton JV, Sarkor-Telecom LLC, Sharq-Telekom LLC, and Texnoprosistem LLC. The organization’s website is tas-ix.uz.

It should be noted that the Tashkent traffic exchange point “TAS-IX” was recognized by the international organization RIPE, which provided its own Autonomous System AS30865. In September 2004, a full-fledged dynamic peering was organized between 5 TAS-IX Participants – “VSS”, “Buzton”, “Sarkor-Telecom”, “Sharq-Telekom” and “Texnoprosistem”.

NNO TSVSPD “TAS-IX” is an independent Uzbek traffic exchange point, created on the example of the formation of most international traffic exchange points (Moscow, Europe, London, Madrid, etc.) from both organizational and technical positions. Based on the rich international experience, the TAS-IX Participants have achieved the organization of a full-fledged and competent peering.
